KEITH GALLANT It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Keith Gallant of Winnipeg on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, with his loving family by his side. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Betty of 40 years; his son David (Vivian) of Garson, MB, Tracey Popel (James) of Winnipeg, Rhonda McDougal (Andy) of Winnipeg; his five very special grandchildren, Bryce, Gabriel, Tyler, Abigail and Gwendolyn; his mother Alice of Gilbert Plains; sisters, Linda (John) Tomanek of Winnipeg, Wilma (Jim) Pockett of Snow Lake, Doreen Graham of Gilbert Plains and many nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by countless close friends who enriched his life in many ways. Keith was predeceased by his father Raymond in 1997. Keith was born in 1943 in Dauphin, MB and grew up in Gilbert Plains, MB. He joined the Canadian military in 1961 and proudly served until he was honorably discharged in 1970. During that time he met and married the love of his life, Betty Cyca of Grandview, MB. After leaving the military, he joined Canada Life Insurance as a financial advisor. He later joined Manulife Financial where he remained until his retirement in 2001. Keith was a man of many talents. His greatest talent was making friends. Wherever he went people were drawn by his wonderful sense of humor and his generous nature. He and Betty enjoyed many wonderful trips over the years. He also loved playing golf with his special golf buddies though it had to be scheduled to fit in with the second love of his live, his farm . His farm began as a mere pile of scrub in a forest near Woodridge, MB. He transformed it into a beautiful little haven where he and Betty enjoyed 15 wonderful years. He was most happy when he was outside cutting trees, chopping wood, creating all kinds of magnificent gardens, and building all sorts of wonderful things in his garage for his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomson In The Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Reception to follow at Fort Garry Legion #90, 1125 Pembina Hwy., where he was a proud member for over 35 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Care Centre. A very special thank you to the Oncology staff at both the Victoria and St. Boniface Hospitals, and to the extraordinary staff at the palliative care unit at Riverview Health Care Center. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • 25 years ago, I was a secretary at Manulife working with Bas Avery and Keith. When Bas would visit Winnipeg, sometimes he and Keith would come and have lunch with me at my place of employment. I always enjoyed our visits and I believe the last time I saw Keith he told me about the time you were driving near your 'farm' and nearly encountered several tornadoes! What a story! I am sorry to learn of his passing and please accept my sincere sympathy. - Posted by: Joy Marsh (Co-Worker) on: Mar 21, 2005
