MABLE REID It is with sadness that we report the peaceful passing of Mable Reid on Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Vista Park Lodge. Mable was born July 29, 1920, in Winnipeg and spent her entire life in Winnipeg. Mable is survived by her sister Doris Betty Edmonston; and nieces, Mary and Heather Edmonston of Springfield, OR; and her brother David's stepdaughter Bette Brophy of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her parents Matthew and Mary Reid; brothers, David (Janet) and George (Nellie); and sister Jean. There were happy memories of early years spent at the family cottage at Sandy Hook. Interested in the outdoors, she later enjoyed curling, golfing and bingo. Mable was employed as a secretary at Breen Motors, and then at Canadian Industries Limited. Mable gave valuable leadership in various roles in Scouting for many years. She treasured lasting friendships made during these experiences. As a longtime member of St. Vital United Church, appreciation is expressed to the visiting friends from St. Mary's Road United Church. Sincere appreciation to the homecare workers who made their way daily to Mable's home, often through severe weather conditions, to extend compassionate care. A special thanks to the staff of Vista Park Lodge for the kindness and exceptional care for the past two years. Finally, the family would like to express their thanks to two of Mable's longtime friends, Dora Bonner and Marie Vannevel for their many kindnesses to Mable during her last years. Following cremation a private burial service will be held at Brookside Cemetery. A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, March 24 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Rd., Winnipeg. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
