KATHLYN BETTY STUART CURTIS (nee IRVINE) Betty Curtis of Sidney, BC, formerly of Marathon, ON. Born in Calgary, October 24, 1919, Mom passed away March 4, 2005, in Victoria, BC, at the age of 85. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Mary and son Bill (Lesley) of Winnipeg; grandsons Michael of Toronto and Kevin of Ottawa. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Jim, on December 27, 2004, and is survived by her brother Norm (Joyce) Irvine of Victoria. Betty moved to Winnipeg at the age of 10 where she grew up and went to school, graduating from Success Business College. She met Jim in Winnipeg, and they were married in Valleyfield P.Q. in 1941 where Jim was working as a research chemist for Canadian Defense Industries during the war. They moved to Marathon in 1947 where they raised their family. Betty was very active in community affairs. She was a leader with the Girl Guides, a volunteer at the library, with the hospital auxiliary and a member of the hospital board. She was an active, and life member of the UCW, sang in the church choir, and enjoyed gardening, sports and bridge. When Betty and Jim retired to Sidney in 1979, she continued her volunteer work. She received her 20 year pin as a volunteer with the ladies auxiliary of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, worked with the UCW at St. Paul's United Church, and sang for many years in their choir. She was also involved with the Sidney Lions Club. A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 12 at St. Paul's United Church, 2410 Malaview Ave. in Sidney.
