ROY MELVILLE JAMES On Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the age of 82 years, Roy passed peacefully away at Park Manor Personal Care Home with his wife and daughters at his side. It was painful to watch his recent struggle with pneumonia so is a relief knowing that he's now free from COPD, emphysema and Alzheimer's and is no doubt walking their dog, Zee, who's been waiting for him. Roy was born January 1, 1923 in Winnipeg, son of Arthur James and Ruby Bell. Home was mostly Winnipeg, except for three years in Port Arthur, ON and 2 years in Cranbrook, BC. He was a decorated Second World War veteran, initially posted to England before shipping out to Europe and participating in the Italian campaign. Roy Boy retired in 1987 as branch manager (Bumper to Bumper) after 32 years with Acklands Ltd.; previous places of employment include Woolworths (where he met Muriel) and Consolidated Motors. For 35 years he was a member of Elks Lodge (one year as Exalted Ruler) and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #7. He enjoyed bowling, golf, baseball, curling, bridge and crib. He and Muriel also loved travelling the world. He's survived by his wife of 58 years, Muriel (Porteous); daughters, Pat (Dave) Allan and Kirby (Ron) Pearson; grandchildren, Keith (Tara) Allan and Heather Allan; great-grandchildren, Kelton and Kyra; sister Ev Antoniuk (all of the Winnipeg area) and brother Vern of Calgary, AB. He'll be missed by two nephews, 12 nieces, cousins and many, many friends; also greatly missed by his grand-dogs' Bailey, Daytro (Papa's Boy), Kiowa, Santana and also furry Murray'. He was predeceased by sisters, Muriel Whitechurch (71) and Irene (37); brothers, Earl (93) and Alan (27). Cremation has taken place with later interment at Transcona Cemetery. A celebration of Roy's life is to be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 3 at the Transcona Legion, 117 Regent Ave. E. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Elks Fund or St. George's Anglican Parish (321 Pandora Ave. W.), Park Manor Personal Care Home (301 Redonda St.) or The Humane Society. The family also sends a special thanks to the caring staff of Park Manor who helped ease Roy's last few months. Love You Roy/Daddy/Papa!
