NORMAN DOWLING August 10, 1917 - March 22, 2005 Peacefully on March 22, 2005 with his beloved wife Catherine of 52 years by his side, Norman passed away at Concordia Hospial at the age of 87 years. He was predeceased by his father William, mother, Isabela and brothers Wesley and Raymond. Norman is lovingly remembered by his wife Catherine, sister Hazel and his brother Fred of California. He is also remembered by many sister and brothers-in-law, nephews and nieces, and in particular great-great-niece Cayla and great-great-nephew Brenden who gave him a lot of joy in the last few years. Norman was born in Winnipeg, on August 10, 1917. He worked at the C.P.R. Freight Department and then in 1942 he left to join the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served for four years overseas throughout Europe. When he returned to Winnipeg he went back to work at the C.P.R, this is where he caught the eye of his future wife Catherine who also worked there. Norman and Catherine were married in 1952. They enjoyed travelling and were very fortunate to have visited many wonderful places; Spain, Florida, Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico and Switzerland are just to name a few. There were many memories of these vacations. Norman had a great passion for swimming and was a member of the YMCA for many years. He has many Certificate Awards for swimming competitions. He also enjoyed music in particular music from the Big Band Era. Norman and Catherine even took ballroom dancing classes. Norman had a great thirst for knowledge. He loved to read, do crossword puzzles and follow the world news well into his 80s. In 2003 his health started to decline and he was not able to do as much as he would have liked. In spite of this he still always had a beautiful smile that would light up a room and an amazing twinkle in his bright blue years. The last three months of his life were spent in Concordia Hospital with Catherine always by his side. A very special thank-you to all the nurses and health care aides at Concordia Hospital 3rd floor for all the kindness and care they gave Norman. A celebration of Norman's life and his entombment at Green Acres has already taken place on Thursday, March 24. Pallbearers were nephew, Arnold Lisowick, Eugene Tokaryk, Walter Manuliak and David Pinuta, cousin Brian Hardy and good friend Maurice Burke. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Rest in Peace Sweetie - Until we meet again GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy. #1 E. at Navin, (204) 222-3241
