KURT BERGNER Peacefully on March 22, 2005, Kurt, loving husband of Winnie for 71 years passed away at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 92. A man of few words and a dry sense of humour, he had the heart of a very kind and sensitive man and the hands of a giant. He was predeceased by his brothers, Rudy and Walter; by sisters, Johanna, Mary and Frieda; as well as by Eilleen Eliason. His memory will be cherished by his beloved wife Winnie; and children, Edward, Harvey (Irene), Warren, Gloria (Mark Fenny) and Glenda (Colin MacDonald). His grandchildren, Chris Davis, Karen (David Juce), Heather (Hugh Cameron), Cheryl (Ward Einarson), Keith (Angela Stadl), Tammy (Grant Michaud), Tracy Hendershott, Carolyn and Kathryn Fenny, Scott, Cameron, Christian Kurt MacDonald; great-grandchildren, Michael, Marian and Eveline Juce, Kate and John Einarson, Anna Bergner, Michelle and Jenna Michaud, Melissa and Ashley Hendershott; brother Art (Una) of Ashern, MB; and sister-in-law Edith Baker. Special friends the Miller and Shingleton families. Kurt was born on August 6, 1912, and raised on the farm in Camper, MB. He came to Winnipeg at the age of 15 and found a job as a mechanic-in-training at George Allen's Garage. This led to a career as the self-employed operator of the Louise Bridge Esso. Kurt married Winnie on September 3, 1933, and they lived happily in the north end of Winnipeg while raising their three sons. It was here that many life long friendships were forged. In 1954 they moved to Fort Garry where they resided for 50 years. Winnie was busy with their two younger daughters as well as keeping the social calendar full. Kurt did find the time for his Friday bowling league and for Sundays at the cottage at Winnipeg Beach between his 12 to 14 hour workdays. Following retirement, curling was his preferred activity. Kurt and Winnie enjoyed wintering in Arizona, Europe and 18 trips to Hawaii. In later years son Ed took them on road trips with Warren in Canada and the U.S. Kurt had the talent to fix anything. Amazing the family with his creative solutions and the fact that no matter what the piece Kurt could find it in the stash in either the basement or the garage. Nothing was ever thrown out, in fact Kurt was one of the earliest environmentalists, recycling everything. Respecting Kurt's wishes, no service will be held. A celebration of Kurt's life will be held at 31 Sloane Cres. on Saturday, March 26 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Khartum Shrine Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
