Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS SINCLAIR (DOUG) FAVELL Peacefully, on March 24, 2005 after a lengthy battle with interstitial pulmonary fibrosis and diabetes, Doug Favell passed away at the age of 77 years at the Deer Lodge Centre. He is survived by his daughter Heather (David) and his first grandchild, Connor. He is also survived by his brother Gerry (Florence); sister-in-law Jenny Park and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially good friend Heredith Flaig and his old pal of 70 years, George Linsey. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Marion in 1999; his parents, Anne and Stanley Favell; and his older brother Edgar Park. Dad was born on July 9, 1927 in Chicago, IL, and grew up in Matlock, MB, until High School when he moved to Winnipeg. He married Marion Merrells on September 7, 1963 and they resided in Winnipeg until 1993 when they moved back to Matlock. Dad moved back to Winnipeg in 2001. He was employed by CNR for 37 years and happily retired in the late 80s to enjoy many years of travel. Dad's profession was as a locomotive engineer, but his passions were oldtime/Metis fiddling and genealogy. He enjoyed travelling to different fiddling contests and was an accomplished old time fiddler himself. He researched his family tree through Hudson's Bay Archives and had traced it back all the way to 1754 in Canada. His favourite pastime however, was being Grampa Doug to his little guy Connor. A more proud grandpa has never been seen. Dad had an excellent sense of humour, right to the end and enjoyed a good pun. He will be greatly missed by friends and family and will be thought of fondly by all those who knew him. We would like to thank Dr. Peter Tomy for his many years of care, Dr. V. Taraska and Dr. Warren as well. We would also like to thank Debbie and Mariel, Dad's home care ladies for all their care and attention while Dad was still at home. Thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and staff on 2 East at Riverview Health Centre, especially Barb, Karen and Roberta. Lastly, thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of 4 West at Deer Lodge Centre for everything done during Dad's final days. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, on Tuesday, March 29 at 11:00 a.m. A private interment of ashes will take place at the Robinson Spur Cemetery in Matlock, MB, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation or the Canadian Lung Association in memory of Doug. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
