Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED CHEMERIKA (nee MCCARTHY) Mildred Ivy Lillian McCarthy passed away at Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg on March 24, 2005. Mildred was born in Winnipeg on April 7, 1918, the only child of William John McCarthy (born in Winnipeg June 3, 1886) and Anne Louisa Tugwell (born in Cranleigh, Surrey in August 1897). Mildred's mother died November 11, 1918, a victim of the Spanish Influenza pandemic, leaving Mildred motherless at the age of seven months. In her early years Mildred was raised by her father's sisters, primarily her aunt, Charlotte Edwards. Mildred was predeceased by her beloved husband, Michael Osadchuk, a Hong Kong veteran, to whom she was married for 20 years. Mildred is survived by her two sons: Bill Lavery and his wife Pam (Kimberley) of Petawawa, Ontario; and Gerald Lavery and his wife Betty (Marr) of Winnipeg. Mildred is also survived by five grandchildren and their families: Gerald Lavery of Ottawa, his wife Valerie Yates and their twin children, Findlay and Ida Yates-Lavery; Carolyn Gendron of Petawawa, Ontario and her daughter Meghan; John Lavery and his wife Vienna Demeduk and their daughters Jasmine and Samantha, all of Winnipeg; Cristin Clark and her husband Brady Clark of Redmond, Washington; and Tracey Lavery of Winnipeg. Mildred was active until the day illness struck. She was preparing to attend the Rod Stewart concert with her dear friend, Raymond Hill, who helped make her final years a joy. She loved music and dancing and was a prodigious knitter of afghans. Any marriage or birth in her own family or in the family of her friends was certain to be marked by a shower hosted or co-hosted by Mildred. Not surprisingly, Mildred was much beloved by her family and her many friends who will all dearly miss her. The family appreciates the excellent care given Mildred by the staff of Five North. A service to honour Mildred will be held on Tuesday March 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The family would ask that, in lieu of flowers, a gift be given to a charity of your choice. Interment, at a later date, will be with her mother in Brookside Cemetery. Millie was a lovely lady. We were happy that she came into our family and has made the last five years very happy ones for our father. She will be deeply missed by all of us. - Posted by: Ray and Brenda Hill (Family) on: Mar 28, 2005
