Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH KITCHUR Suddenly, on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at his farm with family near, Joe Kitchur, aged 80 years, of St. Martin passed away, doing what he loved best, farming. Dad will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helen of 51 years; son Kenny (Erin Murdoch), Avery and Chelsea; daughter Bev (Don Makinson), Carey (Kelly), Devin and Bryce (Kassandra); son Alvin (Lorraine),Justin (Pam and Colby), Ashton and Kali; daughter Debbie (Gordon Knowles), Amanda and Bradley; daughter Deanna (Terry Hayward), Skuylar and Tanner; daughter Naomi (Doug Kippen), Dalen, Shanley, Natasha, Kaden and Paige; brother Johnny (Agnes); sister-in-law Julia Kitchur; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Mary; sisters, Julia Starr and Pauline Rawluk; brothers, Bill, Stanley and Roman; sister-in-law Betty Kitchur; brothers-in-law, Bill Starr and Fred Rawluk. Joe was born on June 3, 1924 in St. Martin. He enlisted in the army March 14, 1944 and was discharged January, l947. He served overseas in France, Belgium, England, Holland and the United Kingdom. In his younger years, Joe loved ranching at Peonan Point, coaching girls' baseball, fishing, hunting and playing the accordion. On July 18, 1953, he married Helen Zaleski. They began their married life in Homebrook where they started their family. Later, they moved to St. Martin to the homestead. In 1974, they built the new house where they still reside. In 1963, Joe started work at C.F.S. Gypsumville as a commissioner and later worked in the power plant until the base closure in 1987. He then continued farming with his two sons. Joe enjoyed spending time at The Ranch for family camping and barbeques. He enjoyed socializing and reminiscing with family and friends about the good old days, and having visitors at the farm, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Friends and relatives may pay their respects from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30 at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 at the St. Martin Hall with the Rev. Canon J. Ronald McCullough officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Interment to follow at St. Martin Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Justin Kitchur, Brad Knowles, Avery Kitchur, Carey Makinson, Ricky Rawluk and Greg Kitchur. Everyone in attendance can consider themselves honorary pallbearers. The family would like to thank the Gypsumville ambulance and RCMP, Lakeshore Hospital and Arnason's Funeral Home for their care for Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 57, in care of Frances Defoort, Box 634, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
