VIOLET JEAN HUNTER We sadly announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Violet Hunter on March 24, 2005 at the Health Sciences Centre. She was known as Violet to a few, Vi to most and Lala to some of those dear to her. She was born on September 8, 1922 in Renwer, MB to Katherine and William Bell the third of nine siblings. Her early schooling was in Renwer. To expand her life experience she moved to Ontario and on returning to Minitonas, MB she married George Hunter in 1943. They began their family there on the family farm and subsequently moved to Winnipeg in 1959 where she resided until her passing. Vi was predeceased by her parents; her husband George in 1977; her brothers, Bill, Roy, Bert and Johnny Bell; her sister Elva Underdahl; sisters-in-law, Betty and Mary Bell; brothers-in-law, Howard Durston and Gordon Martin; and granddaughter Crystal Hunter in 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Kae (Nick) Yurkiw, Brenda (Roger) Kennedy; and son Barry (Debbie) Hunter; grandchildren, Sherry (Keith) Carrothers, Evan Hunter (Corinne), Patrick (Lisa) Hunter; great-grandchildren, Amber, Kelvin and Derek Carrothers; and great-great-grandchild Tatiana Carrothers; her sisters, Margaret Martin, Lily (John) Herda; brother Harold (Joan) Bell; sisters-in-law, Bette Durston, Alice Dawes and Leith Bell; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Vi had a love for sharing her many favourite foods around the kitchen table and would always send you home with a care package. Everyone was welcome in her home. Lala had a special place in her heart for Amber and Tatiana and knitted many treasured garments for Tatiana. Vi read voraciously and could always find a joke for any situation. Ballroom dancing earned her many awards and hours of pleasure. Vi loved to dress elegantly and enjoyed the formal functions of the Eastern Star which she joined in 1949. We all have our special memories of her. When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloomed filled room Why cry for a soul set free Miss me a little but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that we once shared Miss me but let me go For this is a journey we all must take And each must go alone It's part of the Master's plan A step on the road to Home So when you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds Miss me but let me go. A special thank you to Dr. Roussin, home care staff, Lion's Place staff, Shannon, Jackie, Tim and Trudy and her wonderful neighbours for 40 years, Georgina Caron and Keith Macdonald. A graveside service will be held at the Minitonas Cemetery on Tuesday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Minitonas United Church immediately following the service. Arrangements entrusted to Swan Valley Funeral Services of Swan River, MB.
