PAUL KARL HANS GLENEWINKEL On Sunday, March 27, 2005, Paul passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 76 years. Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife Grit, of 52 years of marriage; daughter Evelyn Franzmann (Jamie); son Thomas (Debbie); grandchildren, David, Josh and Niki; his sister Lena Peck (Germany); sister-in-law Inge Glenewinkel (Germany); as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Germany. Paul was predeceased by his parents; and nine siblings. Paul was born in Celle, Germany, January 8, 1929. He immigrated to Canada in September, 1951, aboard The Fairsea . Upon landing in Quebec City, he made his way to the bush camps of northern Ontario where he gained employment as a lumberjack. From there, Paul came to Manitoba and worked as a farmhand. His adventures then brought him to Winnipeg in 1953 where he met Grit. They married and settled in the west end of the city to raise their family. Paul was actively involved in gymnastics at home in Germany and joined the YMCA gym program when he arrived in Winnipeg. He enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends, playing the mandolin, listening to music and dancing. Paul also treasured trips to the cabin at Hillside Beach. Over the years, Paul worked for Ted Rink Plumbing, Acme Chrome, and Health Sciences Centre. In 1961, he became employed with Cimco in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning trade, where he remained working until his retirement in 1993. During his retirement years, Paul enjoyed puttering around the trailer at Camp Neustadt and his back yard at home, as well as tending to his many birdfeeders. A Celebration of Paul's Life will be held on Thursday, March 31 at 3:00 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave. at Mount Royal Road. Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba and to all of the Palliative Care Team on 3E at Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Opa, We Will Miss You. Dance With The Angels Now.
