ERNEST ALBERT (MICK) MITCHELL It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Earnest Albert (Mick) Mitchell on Monday, March 21, 2005 at the Wawanesa Hospital. Mick will be lovingly remembered by his sister Bernice Churcher, Winnipeg; nephews, Wayne (Tracey) Venier, Dennis (Brenda) Mitchell; nieces, Barbara (Don) Pirie, Judy (Rick) Sebastian, Joyce (Leonard) Chalanchuk, Lorraine (Laurie) Rutherford, Candace (Tom) Lockhart; sister-in-law Alma (George) Wallis; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends. Predeceased by his parents, Harold and Ella Mitchell; sisters, Alice, Ethel (Venier) brother Bud; nieces, Terry Lynne (Weiss) and nephew Boyd Mitchell; as well as brothers-in-law, Grant Churcher and Vic Venier; and infant brothers, Jamie, Edwin and Jack. Mick was born in Wawanesa on October 14, 1921 and spent most of his life there. He retired from the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company in 1986 after 44 years of service. Mick was a boy scout leader, enjoyed playing tennis and skating at the old rink. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time at his cabin at Balmy Beach. Mick was a member of the Brandon Retriever Club and won many trophies with his dogs Target and Dart at trials in the United States and Canada. He served on Wawanesa Town Council, History Book Committee, Hospital Board, Director of Valley Lodge and secretary-treasurer of the Wawanesa Cemetery Board since 1967. Mick was instrumental in the formation of the Community Foundation. Mick was a very special person, always thinking of family and friends all the while being fiercely independent. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place with interment in Wawanesa Cemetery on Saturday, March 26 with Rev. Margret Kristjansson and Leigh Sinclair officiating. Memorial donations to Wawanesa Community Foundation, Box 89, Wawanesa, MB R0K 2G0. May he rest in peace.
