Date of Passing: Mar 26, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryADA (EDITH) MARGARET DUNCAN (nee ELWICK) On March 26, 2005, passed away peacefully after a brave battle with heart-related difficulties, at St. Boniface Hospital. She was 83, and is survived by daughter Alexe (Bill); sons, Laurie and Mark (Jill); and grandchildren, Michael and Zoe. Ada Duncan was born in Winnipeg on November 20, 1921, the youngest of four children, to parents, Ethel and Wilfred, who were both of English birth and descent. A child prodigy at the age of two, Ada was an accomplished pianist, and engaged in a lifelong love of music. In 1940, on a rural tour with a Gilbert and Sullivan company, she met the love of her life and husband to be, Chester Duncan. They married on May 29, 1943. Theirs was an extraordinary union born of unbounded devotion, respect, and true intellectual companionship. Ada and Chester took many trips to England and Scotland, and these became the source of great pleasure and inspiration. An omnivorous reader since childhood, Ada took a deep interest in many things. This was crowned by a profound appreciation of English choral music. She was an organist at St. Aidan's for years, a respected piano teacher and a member of the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir. Ada extended her talents to include a great devotion to her children, who grew up in an atmosphere of artistic curiosity, social responsibility and unconditional love. She was devastated by Chester's passing in 2002, but is now happily reunited with him. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being contemplated. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the St. Boniface doctors and nurses for their unstinting and compassionate attention. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ada's name to The St. Amant Centre. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
