FRANCES VIRGINIA MCCOLL Born June 27, 1916, died March 22, 2005 at the Pembina Place Personal Care Home. Frances attended Robert H. Smith Junior High and Kelvin High schools. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1938 with a B.Sc. degree in Home Economics. Her career became that of a teacher of Home Economics for three years in Trail, BC, nine years in Portage La Prairie, and the remaining years, until retirement, in the St. Vital School Division. Frances retired fairly early. She was able to find the time to create two books. Vignettes of Early Winnipeg was published, using the original letters kept by her mother from family and friends over many years of correspondence. The second book was Ebeneezer McColl - Friend to the Indians which Frances wrote using, for reference, letters of her Grandfather, Ebeneezer McColl and research at the Manitoba Archives. These were works of love and intense labour as Frances was a two-finger typist and used a manual typewriter. Frances is survived by two sisters, Ellen Clark (Hugh) of Storrs, Connecticut, USA and Margaret (Peggy) Glabais of Red Deer, AB, nieces and nephews from the United States and Canada and many cousins that she kept in contact with throughout both countries. The family gives thanks to the many staff members and volunteers who cared for Frances over the past years at the Pembina Place Personal Care Home, their love and attention were priceless. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 5, at 7:00 p.m. at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor with a reception to follow. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway 783-7211
