MICHAEL DANKO May 28, 1913 - March 27, 2005 Peacefully at Concordia Hospital on Easter Sunday, with his family by his side. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 66 years, Sophie, of Maples Personal Care Home. Also left to mourn his loss is son Marvin of Costa Rica; grandson Mark (Michelle) of Winnipeg; granddaughter Karen Furtado of Portage la Prairie; daughters-in-law, Rose Desautels (Fern) and Maura Shale; and his sister Pauline Kolton. He was predeceased by his sons, Donald (1980) and Lawrence (2003); brother Walter (2005); sister-in-law Mary (2004); and brother-in-law Nick Kolton. The eldest of three children born to Adam and Pearl Danko, Michael was raised in the communities of Gonor and Narol, continuing a family tradition of farming until retirement in 2003. Michael raised three boys while employed at CN Railway, retiring after 25 years service. He always made time for family and friends, and even strangers soon found their way into his circle. Members of the clergy, especially Msgr. Bozyk, along with fellow parishioners, were considered his extended family with whom he enjoyed spending time and always treated with respect. It was wonderful to see so many friends and relatives visit over the years. Your friendship, celebrations and outings were greatly appreciated. Dad (Grandpa) always had a smile and joke for everyone and looked forward to their arrival. Special thanks to the excellent homecare attendants who became part of his life. Heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Concordia Hospital for their care and understanding. Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 6297 Henderson Hwy. Interment to follow at a later date. We are thankful to God for the time he gave us with Dad. Our lives have been so enriched by his firm, yet gentle ways, strong leadership and wisdom. We will miss him dearly, but we joyfully give him up to the Lord's care. Rest in Peace, Dad (Grandpa) Vichnaya Pamnyat! Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
