ROBERT WILLIAM CROSSEN Peacefully, on Saturday, April 2, 2005, Bob passed away at the Gimli Community Health Centre at the age of 91 years. Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Muriel; father James and mother Mary; sisters, Charlotte and Anna and her brother Jimmy. He also lost his dear daughter Lori less than five months ago. He will be fondly remembered by his son-in-law Robert Kulczycki; grandsons, Kaleb, Kelly and Matthew; very special friend Addie; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, railroaders, friends, and those that knew him as uncle Bob . He was born in Winnipeg on July 14, 1913 and attended St. Ignatius Catholic School and St. Paul's College where he was part of the 1928-29 Provincial Hockey Championship Team. He was a talented singer and musician who was engaged in many radio shows and barnstormed rural Manitoba in the 1930s. He married his beloved wife Muriel in September 1935, mourning her passing in January 1995 after almost 60 years of marriage. The lure of the railroad called him (his father's career) in 1940 and he retired from the CNR as a conductor after 35 years. Upon retirement, Bob and Mirty took up permanent residence in Matlock, MB where they proceeded to have a long happy retirement gardening, enjoying visits with their many friends and relatives (especially their three grandsons) and spending winters in Mexico and Arizona. In 1994 following heart surgery, Bob and Mirty made their last move to Shorepoint in Gimli. Bob was a consummate gentleman and was well respected by all that knew him. His sense of humour and compassion for others will be sadly missed. Bob would like to say one last thanks to the staff at the Gimli Community Health Centre for the wonderful care both he and Mirty received over the years. He lived a virtuous life and took solace and strength in the Church. He is now with the Lord, his beloved Mirty, and dear Lori. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, (tonight) April 5 at 7:00 p.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Winnipeg Beach with Sister Cathy Laviolette officiating. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. also in the Church with Fr. Ernest Kamath, Fr. Art Seaman and Deacon Ray Sutton officiating. Interment will take place in the Assumption Cemetery (Chapel Lawn). His pallbearers will be grandsons Kaleb, Kelly Jay and Matthew, son-in-law Robert, and Kelly and Rodney. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Gilbart Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
