MARY TUREK August 15, 1914 - April 4, 2005 With great courage and strength that she has displayed throughout her life, Mary Turek passed away at the Luther Home on April 4, 2005. It is this strength and determination that had kept her alive beyond all expectations following serious health problems. Mom was a gentle soul and had a heart of gold. God saw the suffering that she had endured and lovingly put his arms around her and took her home to be reunited with her loved ones. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Michael Michajlow; sisters, Justina and Jean; her first husband John Wowkotrub (1950) and second husband Metro Turek (1985). She will be sadly missed by her children, Walter Williams (June), Olga Dick, Hilda (Al), Cathy, Terry (Judy), Randel Borden Wynter; grandchildren, David (Heather), Darryl (Karen), Dale, Lisa, Tara (John), Deanna, Trina, Collin; and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Amber. She also leaves to mourn two sisters, Nancy (Charlie) Lenius and Stephanie (Ernie) Aandel as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Hleshtova Ternopil (Ukraine) on August 15, 1914 and immigrated to Canada in 1928 at the age of 14. She has lived in Winnipeg all of her life. She was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and passed on her beliefs and values to her children. In her younger years she sang in the church choir at Blessed Virgin Mary Church and was a parishioner there for many years. Our Mother was a fabulous cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Her borscht, perogies, cabbage rolls and dill pickles were in a class by themselves. Every year she looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden and the harvest was always shared with others. Her flowers brought her much joy and everything flourished under her loving care. She enjoyed watching the many species of birds that came to feed in her yard and she always made sure that food and water was put out for them on a daily basis. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 965 Boyd Ave. with Rt. Rev. Mitrat Gregory Oucharyk officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot at All Saints Cemetery. Rest in Peace Vichnaya Pam'Yat CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
