Date of Passing: Apr 04, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMERVYN (MICKEY) LEVINE In Memory Sleeping peacefully in his Tamarac, Florida home, Mervyn Mickey Levine passed away in the early hours of April 4, 2005. In his 86th year, Mickey led a full and valued life, contributing greatly to every community in which he lived. His guiding principle was always to leave the world a better place for having been here. We take great pride in knowing he did just that. Born in Duluth, Minnesota, an Army Veteran of the Second World War, Mickey retired with honours to open the record store: Melody Lanes. Then big-band leader Mickey operated the store by day and played at the Hotel Duluth's Black Bear lounge at night. A consummate showman Mickey brought a sense of magic and pizzazz to everything he did. Whether to the Auto, Home or Boat shows that he produced across the United States and Canada or to Winnipeg, Manitoba's International Inn Hotel and Convention Centre (where he served as General Manager) excitement and theatre always filled the air. Service was important to Mickey and his accomplishments are many: an honoured lifetime Shriner (Duluth's Aad Temple), a Founding Member and President of Winnipeg's Variety Club and Charter President of the Kiwanis Club of Tamarac top a long list of involvements that knew no bounds. His industry and community work included serving as President of the Winnipeg Convention Centre, International President of the prestigious Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA), President of Manitoba's Gull Harbour Lodge and a Board Member on a number of municipal boards and committees in Tamarac. Family was the keystone of his life. Mickey is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Peggy Levine; children, Gary Levine and wife Julia (Owen Sound, Ontario), Thomas Levine and wife Margo (Dallas, Texas), William Levine and wife Susan (New York, New York) and six much adored grandchildren. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, April 6 (noon) at the Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel, 6701 West Commercial Blvd., Tamarac, Florida 33319 (954-721-1877). Memorial donations to the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada (P.O. Box 5034, Brantford, Ontario, N3T 6J7) would be appreciated.

One of the highlights of my career in tourism was to have the opportunity and honour to serve with Mickey. The industry and the world is better for Mickey's dedication. - Posted by: Robert Bridge (Co-Worker) on: Apr 06, 2005
