Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE MAY COOK (nee WILLCOX) May 9, 1911 - April 4, 2005 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Florence May Cook, on Monday, April 4, 2005 at the age of 93 at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John in December, 2002; as well as by her parents, Hannah and Herbert Willcox; by her brothers, Frank Willcox and Herb Willcox; and by her sister Amy Carroll. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter Joan May Cook and son Jack ( John) Frank Cook, both of Winnipeg. Mom was born in Fort William (Thunder Bay), ON on May 9, 1911. She studied classical piano in Fort William and later in Toronto. She graduated with a Special A.T.C.M. from the Toronto Conservatory of Music. Mom taught piano in Fort William until her marriage in 1941 when she moved to Winnipeg where classical music continued to be an important part of her life. A great delight was playing classical duets once a week for 20 years with a friend who was also an A.T.C.M. graduate. For several years Mom and Dad were season ticket holders to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra where they both particularly enjoyed piano and violin concertos. Mom was one of the original members of St. Peter's Anglican church where she belonged to the Women's Auxiliary (ACW) for many years. She made a lot of good friends from the church, some of whom were members of the bridge clubs. Mom was an excellent bridge player and at one point belonged to three clubs, including one from the neighbourhood. Mom's other interests included her flower garden (especially the roses) and the birds that visited the backyard bird feeder all year round. She also enjoyed shopping - particularly Saturday morning garage sales. Mom was a very caring and generous person and we will miss her. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 755 Elm St. at Grant Avenue. Special thanks go to nurse Brenda and her staff on the third floor of The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg whose compassion and care made our mother's final journey one of comfort. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Florence may be made to a charity of one's choice. THOMSON Funeral Home - 669 Broadway - 783-7211
