Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNEIL RUSSELL LECKIE 1921 - 2005 It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Neil Leckie on March 17, 2005, after a brief illness. Neil leaves to mourn his wife, Jeanne; daughters, Cecelia (Dennis) Chimuk, Shirley (Larry) Hammond; grandchildren, Brian and Douglas Chimuk, Shannon (Joe) Langan, Mike (Cheryl) Clark, Melissa and Sean Hammond; great-grandson Desmond Langan; sister-in-law Margaret Leckie, numerous nieces and nephews. Neil served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He was stationed for much of the War in England. Upon returning to Canada, he began farming with his brother, Cliff. Neil also worked construction for many years, working for Minish Construction from Swan River. It was building the hospital in Treherne that he met and married Jeanne. Neil retired from farming in 1973 but continued to do carpenter work, even spending one summer in Churchill. Neil always enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and tending his apple trees. All the grandchildren have fond memories of annual fishing trips with Grandpa. He enjoyed his garden and always had lots to share with visitors. His apple trees produced pounds and pounds of fruit each year and it was his goal to see none went to waste. Neil also spent many enjoyable hours at the Pool Hall and always had a good time in the company of the guys there. The funeral service was held March 22 at Budz Funeral Home in Holland. Interment of his ashes was at Bethel Cemetery. Urn bearers were grandsons, Mike Clark and Sean Hammond. All in attendance were honorary pallbearers. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made to the Tiger Hills Health Centre or to a charity of one's choice.
