LAWRENCE (LARRY) BURTNIAK Peacefully, after a courageous battle with leukemia, Larry passed away on April 5, 2005, at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Larry will be so greatly missed by daughter Lisa Kolness and son Blair Burtniak, along with his most cherished grandsons, Tyler Kolness and Julian Burtniak. He is survived by his brothers, Ed (children, Cindy and Darren), and Ron; mother-in-law Nadia Weremiuk; sister-in-law Vera Weremiuk (children. Linda, Lorraine and Larry along with their families). He also leaves to mourn extended family and cherished friends. Family members who predeceased Larry were his parents Michael and Nellie; father-in-law Roman Weremiuk; brother-in-law Walter Weremiuk and sister-in-law Barbara Burtniak. His greatest loss was his loving wife Nina in 1988. Larry was born October 31, 1931, in the family home in rural Manitoba. The family later relocated to Winnipeg where Larry attended high school at Daniel Macintyre Collegiate, cultivating his life long friendships. He spent most of his working years employed with Moore Business Forms. In 1956 he married Nina Weremiuk, and together they raised two children in their new home in Garden City - he took much pride in his home, always painting, maintaining, and decorating. Larry was a talented craftsperson, and a long-time Blue Bombers season ticket holder, attending the games with his family. Beyond the love and pride Larry had for his children, was the joy his two grandsons brought to his life. Tyler and Julian had the run of the house, enjoying time spent in the company of their grandfather. At Larry's request, cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held. He will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Nina, in Brookside Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends desire, donations in Larry's memory may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
