Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD TED DUNCAN HONEY January 19, 1913 - April 7, 2005 Peacefully, with his family by his side, after a long battle with Alzheimer's, Edward Duncan passed away at the Maples Personal Care Centre on April 7, 2005. Ted, as he was known to many will be sadly missed by his son Bruce (Donna), his grandson Kenneth (Crystal) and great-grandson Cadon; grandson James (Jackie) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Doris Pearl; his parents, Ethel and Charles; sisters, Nellie Weston and Rose Honey. Dad was born in London, England; and at age six his family moved to Canada, settling in Winnipeg. At age 14, Dad left school to seek employment and assist with family income. He worked at odd jobs in Winnipeg and later worked as farm laborer in S.W. Manitoba. In the 1930's Dad learned the trade of butchering and worked for City Meat and Sausage, later went on to work at Eatons, retiring in 1978 as a shipper receiver. Dad was a truly dedicated employee. In 1942 Dad joined the Canadian Army and served his country with the Winnipeg Light Infantry as a stretcher bearer and bandsmen. Dad enjoyed music and had been taught to play the trumpet by his father Charles and enjoyed many hours serenading the family and neighbors as the trumpet could be heard from the street. Ted was a long-standing devoted member of the Regents Park United Church. He was a Sunday school teacher and later on became an elder. He was actively involved with the church doing sick visiting as well as many other activities. His faith was a big part of his life. Ted enjoyed his home in St. Vital that he shared with the love of his life Doris. He enjoyed gardening and many fishing trips with Bruce and his grandsons. Ted was devoted to his family as well as taking care of his sister Nell Weston and Doris's brother Henry Burr in their time of need. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of their choice. The family would like to thank the staff of the Maples Personal Care Centre for their kindness and care given to our dad. A celebration of Ted's life will be held at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Rd. on Tuesday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Russell Wardell will officiate. The service will conclude at the church. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
