MARIE ELLEN THOR Marie Ellen Thor passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2005 at Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home. She is survived by her son Carl of Thompson, MB; and her nieces, Elizabeth Hitchcock of Elmhurst, IL, Shirley Jaeger of LaGrange Park, IL; grandniece Beth (Dan) Mikal of Antioch, IL; and grandnephew Bruce Hitchcock of West Chicago, IL; seven great-great-nephews and nieces residing in the United States. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Carl Gustav Thor. Marie was born July 14, 1911 in Chicago, IL. She first worked for Sears Roebuck and Co. during the Depression years. She met and married her husband Gus in 1949 and moved to the Lac du Bonnet area, where Gus farmed and Marie worked for local businesses as a bookkeeper. In 1956, Marie stayed home to raise their son Carl. Later she was a clerk-steno for Manitoba Government Northern Affairs and then Manitoba Government Air Division. After her retirement, she spent many years travelling to Europe and Hawaii with friends from the Eastern Manitoba region. She will be sadly missed by her family and many, many friends in the Lac du Bonnet area. Instead of flowers, please send donations to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. A service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Lac du Bonnet, MB on Tuesday, April 12 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Don Reimer officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverland cemetery. Friends may view on Monday, April 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour and at the church Tuesday, prior to the service.
