JUNE LORAINE HAYWARD -
Date of Passing: Mar 24, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJUNE LORAINE HAYWARD 1923 - 2005 It is with profound sadness that the Hayward family announces the sudden passing of our mother and grandmother on March 24, 2005. She had resided in Qualicum Beach, BC in her own home for the past 16 years. Born June Fast in 1923 in Brunkild, MB and until her move to British Columbia, she lived in Winnipeg. June married Fred Hayward in 1940 and with him raised their five children in St. Vital. She is survived by her daughter Judi (Dave Stratton) of Franklin, MB, and sons, Ted (Lisanne Ward) of Vancouver, Tom (Linda Nelson) of Winnipeg and Dan of Crescent Beach, BC. Also survived by her brother Earl Fast of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Alan Hayward of Seattle and sister-in-law Edith Hayward of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her soul mate Fred in 1987 and her son Mark in 1995. In the 1950s June and Fred built one of the first cottages at Moose Lake, MB and every summer June would pick up the kids the day school ended, head for the lake and not return until the day before school. Prior to building their cottage, the family regularly vacationed in Fair Hills, MN. June taught all her children and many others at Moose Lake to be proficient water skiers. June's love of nature and the outdoors instilled a lasting respect in all her children for healthy living. As put by her friend of fifty years, Mary Beresford, She was a great listener. She empathized without offering platitudes. She inspired me. June became a valued and close friend to everyone she embraced, and they were many. She was a mentor to many young women over the years. Her counsel was spirited yet non-judgmental, grounded and sage. Relocating to Qualicum Beach shortly after Fred's passing in 1988, June quickly fell in love with the community and it fell in love with her. Just about every merchant in town knew June! She volunteered at the Museum and was active with the Historical Society, or as she fondly called it, The Hysterical Society. She established for herself in her new community a very full and active life. Nana June as she was known by all, was a great writer and her grandchildren were the recipients of her craft. She never missed a birthday or any other event to send a card or a note. June's greatest joy was her grandchildren, Stephen, Corey, Melanie, Mark, Amanda, Elizabeth, Celene and Emilie. Stephen sadly predeceased her in 1998. A memorial will be held at June's home, 22 - 800 Primrose Lane, Qualicum, BC on April 16 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. June's ashes will be spread at a private family gathering at Englishman River Falls where Fred, Mark and Stephen's are already.
