DOROTHY MARIE HJARTARSON (nee SHIELLS) May 20, 1926 - April 10, 2005 After a brief illness, Dorothy passed away with family by her side at Victoria General Hospital. Dorothy was predeceased by her father Herbert Shiells (1967); mother Breta Shiells (1977); husband Eyvindur Hjartarson (1993); several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and is survived by two sons, Gerald and Philip (Marilyn); sister Audrey Nielsen; brother Roy (Edna) Shiells and sisters-in-law, Laura Hjartarson and Eyglo Hjartarson; her pride and joy, grandchildren, Anthony (Tracy), Donna (Greg), Shayna, Scott, and Alanna. Dorothy grew up in Steep Rock, MB. She then lived in Winnipeg for a time where she worked for Merchants Consolidated. Her personality was one that made an impression on people, for she made many lifelong friends there. She then moved back to Steep Rock, where she married Eyvindur Hjartarson in 1959. They raised two sons and ranched on Peonan Point. She balanced ranch life with many activities in the community, including Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion and Eastern Star. Dorothy was a long time member of Steep Rock United Church, where she taught Sunday School and was treasurer for many years. She never hesitated in lending a hand to anyone who needed her help. Dorothy loved to travel and after retirement went on trips whenever possible. Over the last 11 years Dorothy cherished her time with companion Bill Schellenburg, who became part of the family.They enjoyed travelling, dancing and family activities. Her grandchildren will always cherish Grandma's warm hugs and special treats that she made sure were always ready for them. Dorothy's unselfish and caring ways carried on right until her last days, when despite her being very ill, she was still putting her family's needs ahead of her own. Dorothy will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 at the Faulkner Community Hall with Rev. Stan Fowke officiating.Eulogy will be delivered by Karl Nielsen. Interment to follow in the Faulkner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kelly Schellenburg, Curtis Schellenburg, Karl Nielsen, Lloyd Davies, Anthony Wowchuk and Larry Meisner. The family wishes to thank Dr. Salem, Dr. Griffin, Dr. Maxwell and Mom's nurses at Victoria Hospital, especially Ivy who did all that was possible to make her comfortable.
