VERA GWENDOLYN BIEBER (FRENCH) On April 10, 2005 at the Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall, Vera passed away at the age of 90. Vera was born in Winnipeg on July 14, 1914 to Maurice Dunn Cann and Ida Redman Cann. She graduated from St. John's Technical High School and worked in various jewelry stores until her retirement. Vera married Nelson (Nel) French in Winnipeg where they owned and raced thoroughbreds at Assiniboia Downs. After Nel died and Vera retired she married Carl Bieber. Vera never lost her interest in racing and when possible enjoyed a day at the track. As well as Nel and Carl, Vera is predeceased by sisters, Irene Rosborough of Coquitlam, BC, Margaret (Betty) Doherty of Calgary, AB and nephews, John Rosborough of Port Moody, BC and Shane Rosborough of Coquitlam. She is survived by Jean (Gerry) Hayes of Winnipeg, Margaret (John) Beierle of Airdrie, AB, Ken Doherty of Fort McMurray, AB, Fran (Bernie) Schmuck of Calgary, Heather Rosborough of Port Moody, and all their children. In honour of Vera's memory there will be an informal gathering on Wednesday, April 13 at 2:30 p.m. at the Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall. Interment will follow at the Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg on Thursday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
