Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA PETERS (nee HEESE) 1908 - 2005 It is with deep sadness that the family of Anna Peters announces her passing on March 21, 2005, in her 97th year, at Bethania Personal Care Home. Anna was predeceased by her husband Cornelius and her seven siblings. She leaves to mourn her daughter Marianne and husband Fred Pieper of Mississauga, ON; son Rudolf and wife Anne; grandchildren, Andrew and wife Tammy, James and wife Jae-sook, and great-grandchildren, Mark and Michael; as well as sisters-in-law, Annelies, Arnetta, and Maria, and many nieces and nephews. Anna was born on August 31, 1908 in Chortiza, Ukraine, the daughter of Jakob and Anna (nee Peters) Heese. She enjoyed a wonderful early childhood, the second youngest in a vibrant, loving family. Her world came to a crashing end in the chaos after the Russian revolution when her home was burned and her parents died of typhus within a week of each other. In 1925, with her younger sister Helen in tow, Anna embarked on the trek to another world, Saskatoon, SK, where she found employment as domestic. Courted by a dashing Cornelius Peters, they married in 1933 and bought a farm near Waldheim where Anna gave birth to her children, of whom she was extraordinarily proud and who became the focus of her life. Despite the hardships attendant with farming in depression era Saskatchewan, Anna had many fond memories of this time. In 1942 the family moved to Winnipeg, residing for many years on Toronto Street, creating a home renowned for hospitality, and later at Autumn House on Wellington Avenue. Anna was known by all for her great zest for life and her positive attitude. Anna will be sadly missed but be remembered in our hearts forever. The family is forever grateful for the care and devotion given to our mother by the many care givers from Manitoba Home Care and at Bethania Personal Care Home. In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make a donation in Anna's memory to Bethania Personal Care Home. A memorial service will take place at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg on Friday, April 15 at 1:30 p.m. Family and close friends may wish to gather at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. at 10:00 a.m. before proceeding to Chapel Lawn Cemetery for the interment, which will precede the memorial service.
