ELLEN CHRISTINE MEYER (nee POYNTING) January 8, 1933 - April 10, 2005 On April 10, 2005, surrounded by loved ones, Ellen Meyer passed away at Saint-Boniface Hospital at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with complications from diabetes. Left to cherish Ellen's memory are her husband of 50 years, Egon; her daughter Vivian; her grandchildren, Cynara (Derek) and Stephan (Vanessa); her sisters, Velma and Linda (Don) and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Ellen now joins her mother, Myrtle; her father George; brother Tom; stepmother Maizie; father-in-law Willi; mother-in-law Emma and brother-in-law Peter. Ellen was born on January 8, 1933 in Winnipegosis, MB, where she spent her early childhood years. When she was in her teens, her family moved to Winnipeg, where she completed her high school education. Ellen worked in various administrative positions including Westcott Fashions, where she was employed for many years. In September of 1955, Ellen married Egon. They lived a rich married life and shared many adventures, from raising their daughter, Vivian, to travelling around the world. Lively and sociable, Ellen adored spending time with her family, especially moments spent with her sister, daughter and grandchildren. She rallied around social occasions and took pleasure in bringing everyone together. Ellen loved attending church and her weekly breakfast club meetings. She was fun-loving, living life as a celebration, and as the picture of her dressed up as Zorro demonstrates, she was always game for anything. Bright, driven and a lover of learning, she graduated from a continuing education program at Red River College at 57 years of age. Though she was forced to take an early retirement, she took pride in having completed her coursework, relishing the opportunity to upgrade her skills. We will dearly miss the personalized birthday poems she wrote, her friendly phone calls and her sharp sense of humour. Ellen, wonderful wife, beloved sister, loving mother and grandmother, devoted friend: you really were a mother to us all. We love you and keep you in our hearts, always. Ellen's family would like to thank the entire staff at Saint-Boniface Hospital, especially the dialysis unit, for their loving care. We would also like to thank the Homecare staff for their assistance. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St. A celebration of Ellen's life will then take place at 11:00 a.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
