Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERTRUDE IRENE LUND On Sunday, April 10, 2005 Irene Lund, daughter of the late Rev. Edward Lund and Julia Lund, passed away at the Charleswood Care Centre, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Cartwright, MB, April 27, 1912, and lived in several Manitoba towns where her father served as a United Church Minister. She was predeceased by her sisters, Merle Fraser, Edra Lund and Winona Lund and her brother-in-law Art McConkey. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Grace McConkey, her brother-in-law Don Fraser and Winona's loving companion Madeline Miazga. Also cherishing her memory are her nieces and nephews, Claire Arduini, Beverley Agur, Ian Fraser, David McConkey, Ann McConkey, Brian McConkey and their families. Irene attended Brandon College and earned her A.T.C.M. degree, and then gave piano lessons in Minnedosa for about five years. In 1940 she moved to Winnipeg for business training and became secretary of Knox United Church. In 1950 she moved to Toronto to work in the General Council office of the United Church. In her years there she was pleased to serve as the secretary for each moderator when he was in town. She retired in 1977 and had an active life in her church, was a hospital volunteer, enjoyed musical concerts, and travelled widely. In 1985 she moved back to Winnipeg to be with Edra during her long illness until her death in 1996. Irene will be remembered by family and friends for her cheerful determination to do her best, her interesting sense of humour, her concern for those in need and her generosity to many charities. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favourite charity of Irene's, Nepal School Projects, 63 Perivale Cres., Scarborough, ON M1U 2C4, or to a charity of one's choice.
