MARY MARGARET HACKETT November 16, 1919 - April 10, 2005 In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 10, 2005, Mary Hackett (nee Cranston) passed away at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold Hackett who predeceased her in July 2003, cherished and devoted mother and mother-in-law to son Leroy and Marie Hackett and to daughter Margaret (Marnie) and Bob Hughes. Also remembering her with love, joy and gratitude are her grandson Noel Hughes, granddaughter Tawnya, her husband Christopher Stringer and their children, Caleb, Mason and Ryleigh of Oromocto, NB and granddaughter Heather Hackett and her husband Stephen Ker of Shilo, MB. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Pearl Menary of Lucknow, ON, brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Joyce Cranston of Wingham, ON and sister-in-law Verna Kelly of Stratford, ON. Mom was predeceased by cherished siblings, sisters, Anges Durnin, Ellen Kerr and Cora Cranston; brother Jerry Cranston; and brothers-in-law, Norman Kerr, Livingston Menary and Matthew Kelly; and nephew Peter Kelly. She leaves behind dear cousins, nieces, nephews and their families as well as cherished friends in Ontario, British Columbia and Winnipeg. Mom was born in Ashfield County, ON to Isaac and Margaret (nee Lasenby) Cranston. When Margaret died in childbirth in 1921, Isaac and their four children stayed on the farm and took care of one another as well as the farm. In 1928, Isaac remarried, bringing a wonderful woman, Selena, a widow with two daughters, into the family. Mom married Harold on January 29, 1941 at Ashfield Parsonage. They were married for over 62 years when death separated them on July 6, 2003. During the war, she worked at the Beattie factory in Fergus, ON as well as in the Niagara area. Throughout Dad's later army career, the family lived and travelled in many different places including Germany, Montreal and many different postings in Ontario. In 1995, Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg to be near family. Our mom, nana and great-grandma was a loving, devoted, hard-working and loyal woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures of family life and for all this we honour and thank her. She had a sweet and giving nature, a strong will, gentle spirit and a grand appreciation for the ties of family and friendships. I know how much you love me, as much as I love you. And each time you think of me I know you'll miss me too. So when tomorrow starts without me, Don't think we're far apart For every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart. On Mom's behalf, the family thanks the staff of the Grace Hospital on 3-West and Dr. Macek as well as the staff of the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. We also thank Rev. Clark Saunders, the Westworth United Church community, friends and neighbours for their very kind support to Mom and us. Thanks also go to Charleswood Adult Day Club and home care. Very special thanks again to Ellen R. for her comforting presence. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. Interment service will be held at a later date at Dungannon, ON Cemetery. Donations to Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3N 0H9 or Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3 would be greatly appreciated.
