CHARLES (JACK) JOHN GALUSHA It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Charles (Jack) Galusha on Friday, April 8, 2005 at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 90 years. Jack is survived by Muriel; granddaughters, Keciah Galusha and Shannon Clarke of Lethbridge, AB; great-granddaughters, Madeline and Charlot; great-grandson William (Billy); and very special friends, Nhi and Cheyenne. He was predeceased by his wife Gladys in 1982 and his son James Douglas (Doug) Galusha in 1998. Papa joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in May, 1940 and left for the Second World War. He received his pilot's license which he referred to as his wings. Papa stayed until the end of the war in 1945, Papa retired from flying and then received a call in March 1946 to return to the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Radar Technician. Papa accepted and was posted to Bagotville, PQ until January 1957 at which time he was posted to Winnipeg until 1961 as a Radar Technician operating the GCA Unit (Ground Control Approach) he supervised the units at Dauphin and Saskatoon as well as Winnipeg. Also in 1961 Papa accepted a posting to Gimli, MB to the GCA Unit. Papa retired in 1963 and moved back to Winnipeg. That same year, he accepted a position with the Department of Immigration until he retired in 1979. Papa's favourite aircraft he flew were the Tiger Moth, Cesna Crane, Avro Anson and the Mosquito of which he had personally installed radar. The Mosquito was built by De Haviiland and was his special wonder of all wonders often referred to as the Wooden Majestic by fellow pilots. Papa was a member of the Transcona Golf Club and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 7. At his request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Children's Wish Foundation, Manitoba Chapter, 350 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2 or to the Transcona Golf Club Juniors Program, 2120 Dugald Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2C 3G7.
