Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER MICHAEL STARODUB Peacefully in the early hours of April 14, 2005, with his loving family by his side, Walter Michael Starodub was reunited in heaven with his loved ones who have gone before him. Walter will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years, Adeline (nee Dupuis); his children, Walter (Linda), Sue (Tom), Tim (Eileen), Michael (Kelli), Lori (John); and son-in-law Reid Peebles. Walter was predeceased by his oldest daughter Linda in February 2004. Also mourning his passing are his grandchildren, Megan, Douglas, Michael, Sam, Sarah and Jeffrey; his brothers, Edward (Mary), Frank, Philip (Helen); his sisters, Rosalind Kozlevcar, Frances Corgichuk (Metro) and Helen Chawrun (Nick). Walter was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Peter; and his sisters, Kay and Stephanie. Walter also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, friends and in-laws. Dad was born November 7, 1922, to Michael and Maria Starodub in East Selkirk, the sixth of 11 children. His childhood was spent on the family farm, helping with chores and learning how to make the most of nature's bounty. He loved picking berries and mushrooms of all kinds, as well as fishing and hunting. He was a jack-of-all-trades, having been a miner, a mechanic and finally ending with a 30-plus year career in the construction industry, working for Western Asbestos. Dad always had a strong work ethic and instilled this in all his children. He was also proud of all our achievements and supportive during tough times. After his retirement in 1985, our Dad's favourite pastime was the planting, tending and harvesting of his garden, along with our Mom's helping hand. He shared the harvest with those who weren't blessed with a green thumb, especially his children. His grandchildren, known as his little ladies and little men, will remember him for his hugs and kisses and for the deliveries of cinnamon buns. He also enjoyed running errands for Mom, and chauffeuring her on her bingo nights. Family and friends are invited to drop by Gilbart's Funeral Home in Selkirk between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 for viewing. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in East Selkirk, Father Jerry Talarski presiding. Interment in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lung Association in Walter's memory. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
