EMILIE FRERS (nee KOPITZKI) With her family at her side, Emilie passed away peacefully to be with the Lord, at the Meadowood Manor Nursing Home, on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at the wonderful age of 98 years. She is survived by eight sons, Herbert in California, Werner (Audrey) in Winnipeg, Bill (Evelyn) in California, John (Irene), George (Beverly), Norman (Pat), Ernie (Janet) in the Vancouver area and Kurt (Marg) in Oakville; two daughters, Eleanor Toews in Abbotsford and Marg Hommond in California. In addition, there are 27 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends. Emilie was predeceased by her husband William in 1986; son Herman in 1972; daughter Marianne in 1996; and by all her brothers and sisters. Emilie was born on February 13, 1907 in Volhynia, Poland. She was the second youngest of eight children born to Adam and Anna Kopitzki. When she was six, Emilie and her family moved to Germany. In 1924, when Emilie was 17, the family immigrated to Canada and settled in the Inglis area of Manitoba. On April 27, 1929, Emilie married William Frers. Their marriage was blessed with 12 children. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Emilie encouraged her children to do well in school and to finish high school. She took great pride in her children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. Above all, Emilie reminded them to stay true to the Lord, to read their Bible and to pray. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 22 at 12:30 p.m. in Green Acres Cemetery, Trans Canada Hwy. No. 1 East at Navin Road. (Those wishing to attend, please gather at the cemetery entrance gates at 12:15 p.m.) A celebration of Emilie's life will follow in the Meadowood Manor, 577 St. Anne's Rd. at 1:30 p.m. with Chaplain Edward Hamm officiating. Our family wishes to thank Chaplain Edward Hamm and all the generous staff at Meadowood Manor for their compassionate care during the last six years of Mom's life. Being able to live in a home that provides spiritual as well as physical care was a great comfort to her. We look forward to seeing you again in Heaven. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Emilie's memory may be made to the Meadowood Foundation, 577 St. Anne's Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 5B2.
