SISTER GERMAINE DE PAPE

In the peace of Christ with family and her Ursuline Sisters praying at her side, Sister Germaine went to her heavenly home on Friday, April 15, 2005, at Tache Centre. Her last words were Jesus I love you. Sister Germaine was born in Bruxelles, MB on January 18, 1920, the daughter of August and Augusta De Pape who were Belgian pioneer settlers in the Bruxelles area. She was fiercely proud of her Flemish heritage, her family and extended family. Sister Germaine was predeceased by her parents, August and Augusta (Lombaert) De Pape; her sisters, Angele (Sr. Augustine o.s.u.), Gerarda (Simoens), Martha (Wytinck); brothers, Michel (Paula), Albert (Mary) and Gus (Gabie). She is survived by her Religious Community, her sisters, Madeline (Hilhorst), Sister Maria De Pape o.s.u., and brother Joe (Raymonde), also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends. Sister Germaine was pre-emiently a teacher. Her teaching spanned years at Ste. Marie in Bruxelles, St. Alphonse, Our Lady of Victory Parish School in Winnipeg, St. Norbert Collegiate and Library. Upon retiring from teaching Sister Germaine spent several years in Pastoral Care in both Tache Centre and Central Park Lodge. Sister Germaine's friendly smile and kind words for everyone were her hall mark. The Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk wish to extend their sincere and heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the entire Staff at Tache Centre 3 ABC, to the Residents, the Pastoral Care providers and the Social Work Department, all of whom expressed their prayers and concern for Sister Germaine. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, corner of Stafford Street at Corydon Avenue, Winnipeg, on Tuesday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. followed by Service of Committal in St. Gerard Parish, Bruxelles, MB at 3:00 p.m. with interment in the Parish Cemetery.
