Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY MARY MEAKIN (nee VAN BAALEN) Dorothy Meakin died on April 12, 2005, at Deer Lodge Centre. Born of Dutch immigrants on May 19, 1917, Dot (Dorothy) was athletic in her interests. She was an avid speed skater as a young adult. In her later years, Dot was a member of the same ladies league bowling team at Rossmere Lanes for 20 years. Dot was predeceased by an infant daughter, and also by her husband of 63 years, Arthur (Red) Meakin in 2001. Dot is survived by her brother, John Van Baalen, and sister Mary Robertson. Dot was quietly independent. She had a wry sense of humour and faced many difficult challenges with uncomplaining dignity and patience. Dot will be sadly missed by her friends Karin and Bryan Rivers and Gertrude Brickell. According to her wishes, Dorothy will be laid to rest with her husband at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Heartfelt thanks go to the staff of 4E Deer Lodge Centre for their care of Dot in her final days.
