NORMAN SCHERZA It is with deep regret we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Norman, Friday, April 15, 2005. at the S.D.G.H., Selkirk, MB. Predeceased by an infant son Kenneth, son Dennis, and his wife Irene of 62 years, Norman will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his son Don and wife Lynn, granddaughters Tracy, Kelly, Terry, Toni, Kristi and their spouses and great-grandchildren, all of Spokane, WA and granddaughters Tammie and Theresa Shaski. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister Emily Stock of Brandon, MB, brother Chuck (Anne) of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, sister Margaret (John) Kindrat of Selkirk, sister-in-law Cecilia Smith of Brandon, many nieces and nephews as well as his dedicated and respected caregiver and friend Anna (Toots) Sokolowski. Norman was born March 26, 1919 in Brandon, MB. A butcher by trade he was employed with the Brandon Packers for many years before moving with his family to Winnipeg and ultimately Selkirk where initially he owned and operated a cold storage locker plant later to become the Pernation Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge where he and his wife Irene enjoyed many years of both happiness and hardships alike. Affectionately known as Stormin' Norman in his earlier years, age did not diminish his sense of humour. He truly enjoyed people, their interests and opinions and being a man of good heart was always willingly there to help anyone at a time of need. From the time of Irene's passing in 2000, he felt most fortunate to be able to remain in his comfortable and familiar home environment with the very much appreciated assistance of his wonderful home care workers who he considered to be his friends particularly the late Ollie Stasiuk, Leslie Benson and his daycare program leader Lorraine Byers. He eagerly looked forward to attending the adult group programs at Betel Home where he met and enjoyed socializing with his friends. The family extend a heartfelt thank you to all his wonderful care giving workers who have been Norman's greatest source of support over the years. Also thanks to the medical and nursing staff of S.D.G.H. for their special care administered. Cremation has taken place and in compliance to Norman's expressed wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A private family gravesite committal service will be conducted by Pastor Dave Saude at the St. Clements cemetery. Rest in Peace, Dad My life on earth is truly past, I've loved you all to the very last, Weep not for me but courage take, And love one another for my sake. Gilbart Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
