GERALD (GER) WILSON BALCAEN Suddenly, on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, Gerald was taken from us to be with God, at the age of 63 years. Remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife Lorraine (nee Labelle), of 41 years of marriage; his much loved boys, Ronald (Denise), Robert (Stacey), George (Aneta) and Tom (Jen); eight beautiful grandchildren, Brett, Tylor, Tanner, Cody, Sidney, Samantha, Ricky and Matthew; brothers, Harvey (Fern) and Maurice (Joan); sisters, Louise (Howie) and Gail. With so many friends at home in Winnipeg and at his winter home in Arizona, he touched many people with his friendly and honest personality. Ger was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Fort Garry where he ran the family plumbing and heating business up until his retirement in 2002. Fishing was always his passion which he did every chance he had. He will also be missed at all the race tracks he attended weekly during the summer. His knowledge and advice will be tough to replace. Ger was always willing to help anyone with whatever their problem may be. We will all miss him dearly, and we know he'll look down on us from time to time to see what us geniuses are up to. Be at peace with God and know you left footsteps behind that will be hard to follow. We will always love you. Prayer Vigil will be held on Wednesday evening, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Mary Mother of The Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday morning, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. also in the church with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski, V.G. presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Vital Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery (Fort Garry Cemetery), located at the corner of Crescent Drive and South Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ger's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
