STEPAN DARMOID It is with great sadness that the family of Stepan Darmoid announce his passing on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Stepan will be sadly missed by his wife Katherine, daughter-in-law Violet (John) Konowich-Troschuk and grandchildren, Dennis (Sarah) Konowich, their children, Travis and Christian ; Lisa (Mike) Munson; Debby (Dan) Burch and their son Cole; and three nieces in the Ukraine, Yadmella, Zenya and Loodya and their families. Stepan was predeceased by his sister in the Ukraine; step-sons Dennis and Eugene; brothers-in-law Frank and Joe; sisters-in-law Jessie and Rose. Stepan was born on January 3, 1914 in the village of Kniahynyn, Riwne, Ukraine. Stepan immigrated to Canada in the early 1950's. He was employed by the CPR, retiring in 1979. After retirement he travelled extensively to his homeland and many other locations. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral for many years and Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Centre. The family thanks the doctors and nurses for their care of Stepan in the Palliative Care Unit, St. Boniface Hospital. Pallbearers will be Joe Galka, Zenon Harasemiw, Mike Munson, Sam Pylypchuk, Walter Wasyluk and Mihajlo Lepki. Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Rozdeba, Dennis Konowich, Dan Burch and Metro Harasemiw. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, April 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St., Winnipeg. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if so desired donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba in memory of Stepan Darmoid.
