DR. PETER MICHAEL JACKIN

PETER MICHAEL JACKIN October 30, 1926 - April 16, 2005 With sadness, the Jackin family announces that on April 16, after a brief and courageous struggle with cancer, Peter passed away at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, BC. We are thankful that his passing took place in the presence and comfort of his family and friends, as well as with the spiritual guidance and caring support provided by the staff of the Palliative Care Ward. Born and raised in Winnipeg, he obtained his BSc from the University of Manitoba. Following that, he obtained his DDS from McGill University, receiving the American Award of Dental Medicine for his outstanding scholarship. He practised dentistry in Winnipeg from 1951 to 1967 and in 1967, joined the staff of the University of Manitoba Dental College. He also attended the University of Iowa from 1968 to 1970 where he received his MSc in Education as well as a Masters degree in Psychology. Professional activities included participation in the Winnipeg, Manitoba and Canadian Dental Societies, the American Association of Dental Education, the OKU Fraternity, the F.I.C.D., Canadian Academy of Restorative Dentistry, Canadian Society of Prosthedontics, the Association of Clinical Hypnosis, the Canadian Dental Examining Board (1975 to 1981), the University of Manitoba Senate and Executive Boards and the Canadian Accreditation Survey Team. Dr. Jackin also coauthored and published several books pertaining to his specialty, Prosthedontics. Community Activities included many rewarding years as a member of the Winnipeg Kinsmen Club, where he served as both president and governor. He received a Service Award from the City of Winnipeg for his contributions to the community. Dr. Jackin also served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher for St. Andrew's River Heights United Church. His most important and cherished role was that of husband to Norma (wife of 54 years), father to Lynda (Jim), Judi (Steve) and Colin (Diana) and grandfather to Colin, Trevor, Taylor and Brad. Words cannot express how much his love and unwavering support will be missed. We cherish the time we were given with him and will keep him with us in our hearts always. Many thanks for the support of extended family and friends during Peter's illness. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 22 at Victory Memorial Park, 14831 - 28th Ave., Surrey, BC at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Peter Jackin Memorial Fund (scholarship foundation), D113-780 Bannatyne Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0W2 or to the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care, 15521 Russell Ave., White Rock, BC V4B 2R4.
