STEFANIE (KLOS) HUMNISKI
Born: Dec 27, 1915
Date of Passing: Apr 17, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEFANIE (KLOS) HUMNISKI The family of Stefanie Humniski (nee Klos) sadly announces the peaceful passing of their wife, mother and grandmother on Sunday, April 17, 2005. Stefanie was born in Winnipeg on December 27, 1915, the sixth child of Stefan and Josephine Klos. As a young woman Stefanie worked hard as an integral support in the family's wood and fuel business. To her family's surprise Stef eloped with Michael Humniski on June 8, 1940, forming a union that lasted nearly 65 years. Stef and Mike had three sons, Paul, Frank and Greg. Stef was very protective of her sons, encouraging them in their school, extra curricular and employment experiences, even delivering the Star Weekly if her sons could not fulfil the obligation. It is part of the family story as to how she marched on to a football field to see to the care of her son who she perceived was injured. All three boys then banned her as a football spectator. For Stef, the sun rose and set on her four boys, which of course, included Mike. Stef worked hard as a caterer throughout the boys growing-up years and beyond. Her coworkers found her demanding but fair and loyal, and lifelong friendships developed with her girls . Clients, contracting her services, could be assured of a wonderful party. Her fancy sandwiches and tender perogies (ahh...her fruit perogies) remain the benchmark to all lucky enough to have tasted them. The doors to their homes on Stella Avenue were always open to family and friends. Stef loved to provide a special meal for those dear to her. Stef enjoyed having fun and her older nieces and nephews especially remember great times with their Auntie Steffa. Stef and Mike were able to enjoy their retirement, spending 20 winters in Naples, Florida where they were active in the community and formed many solid friendships. Stefanie spent her last three years at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Even with the challenges of aging, Stef kept her quick wit and endeared herself to the caring staff. Stef liked to be part of the action, and cherished her position right next to the nursing station. Many of her caregivers have expressed their admiration for her spunk and determination. Even the kitchen staff was aware of Stef's discerning eye with food and would take time to explain the menus and ways of preparation in order to make her feel comfortable and part of the process. We especially thank Corinne for being with us during Stef's last hours; nurses Brenda and Marsha for their care and concern over the last years; Aikaterina, (her companion); and all the other staff who took special care with Stef, allowing her a sense of dignity and success. We are forever grateful to Fr. Matthew, (St. Ignatius R.C. Church) who came immediately to Stef's bedside and administered the last rites in a touching service. Stef leaves us with many fond memories of her devotion to her faith (St. John's Cantius Church), her driving (leaden foot), shopping for bargains and her generosity. Remembering Stefanie with love, are her husband Mike; Paul and Irene, (Mississauga); Frank and Diane Cameron; and Greg and Rosemarie (Edmonton). Stef also leaves ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, AnneMarie (Andre and Sophia), Johnathan, Stephen (Collin), Christina, all of Toronto area; Alara (Pelle), Akaysha, of Winnipeg; JulieAnn (Don) of Calgary; Kelsey (Carmen), Jeremy and Dara all of Edmonton. Stef also leaves one sister Stella Galka of Milwaukee and countless nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Mary, Kazimir, Jana, Bill and Joe. Prayers will be said for Stefanie at CROPO Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at St. John's Cantius Church, 846 Burrows Ave. on Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be forwarded in Stef's memory to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo St., Winnipeg, R3M 2N6 (designated for the Stefanie Humniski Memorial Music Fund - tax receipts issued).
