MARTHA SCHURKO Peacefully, surrounded by family, Martha Schurko, aged 87 years, was called to her eternal home on Thursday, April 21, 2005 at Riverview Health Centre after a brief illness. She will be sadly missed by brothers, Herman Block (Chilliwack, BC), Roy Block; sisters, Nora Froehlich (Gull Lake, MB), Elma Akins, Tillie Laba; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Block and Kay Schurko as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Martha was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1988; her parents, Amelia and Julius Bloch; brothers, William Block (Alvina), Henry Block, August Block, Bernhardt Block; sisters, Bertha Klatt (August), Elsie Rach (August), Mae Daviduk (Nick); brothers-in-law, Fred Steinke, Fred Froehlich, Larry Akins, Nick Laba; sister-in-law Minnie Block; and most recently nieces, Marlene Block, Marilyn Giesbrecht; and nephews, Norman Rach, John McMillan, Travis Imlah. Martha married Frank in 1975 where they settled in Winnipeg caretaking an apartment building. Upon retirement, they moved to Sandy Hook, MB where Martha enjoyed tending to a plentiful garden. After Frank's passing, Martha returned to Winnipeg to Luther Home where she resided until her illness. Martha enjoyed bingo, playing cards, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and baking. She was very inventive in the many crafts she created and was always generous in giving to family and charities slippers, afghans, baking, as well as many of her other creative knick-knacks. Martha's door was open to everyone and her candy dish was never empty! Pallbearers will be nephews, Allan Akins, Ron Block, Wayne Block, Bill Daviduk, Alvin Froehlich, and Ken Steinke. Honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, Dorothy and Jim Anderson, Daria Laba, Sandra and Gerry Shott. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Crow and all the staff at Riverview Health Centre that put a smile on Martha's face and made her feel so special and comfortable in her final days. The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., with Pastor Ulrich officiating. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martha's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Martha, we'll love you forever.
