Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE SCHMIDT Peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2005, Elsie Schmidt passed away at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 87 years with her family by her side. Mom is survived by daughters, Lenore Miller (Bob), Ruth Aitken (Mark); grandchildren, Marianne, Laura, Philip and Bonnie; great- grandchildren, Laurel, Tina, Andrew, Joshua, Zachary, Rebecca; sisters-in-law, Caroline and Joyce; brothers-in-law, Arnold and Ralph. She was predeceased by her husband George in 2002, parents, Beatrice and Bert Smith; brother Donald and sister Jean. Mom was born on August 28, 1917 in Otterbourne, MB. When she was young, she enjoyed swimming and playing baseball. She also was a great writer. She graduated high school to later become an RN. She married George (Dad) in May of 1941 in Otterbourne, eventually settling in St. Vital where they raised both Lenore and Ruth. Mom was an accomplished baker and won many awards for her Angel Food Cake and Baking Powder Biscuits of which the family reaped the benefits! She was very proud of her involvement in St. Vital Legion (Ladies Auxiliary) giving back to the community. Mom enjoyed being a nurse and worked in several nursing homes. In later years, Mom and Dad spent many winters in Arizona making great friends and many wonderful memories. Mom loved to be around her ever expanding family and enjoyed visiting with her many friends and extended family. The family wishes to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre, Unit CD4 for the extraordinary care Mom received and she will be greatly missed by her fellow residents. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Home Hwy. #1 East at Navin Rd. Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery.
