LT. COLONEL (RETIRED) HENRY ROBERT (BOB) HOOK 1925 - 2005 Lt. Colonel (Retired) Henry Robert (Bob) Hook passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2005. He was predeceased by his loving wife Audrey, and his parents, Jean Lenore (nee Bulloch) and Major Harry Hook. He is survived by his four sons and daughters-in-law, Rob, Jane, Bill, Diane, Gordon, Ann, David, and Margaret; his granddaughter Alexis and grandson-in-law David Silver; his grandsons, Chris (and fiance Angela), Tim, Kyle, Shaun, and Ryan; and his great-grandson Tayen. Bob was born and raised in Winnipeg. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the summer of 1942, and served in #53 RAF Squadron on anti submarine duties and mid Atlantic protection for allied convoys during the Second World War. He was released from the Air Force in September 1945, and he went back to University during the Veterans Summer Session at United College (now the U of W). However, he did not finish his university studies, because he was offered a good job with Beatty Brothers Ltd. as a factory representative. Shortly before that, he met Audrey on a blind date arranged by an old friend. The attraction was immediate, and on Friday, February 13, 1948, they were wed. On the morning of the wedding day, Bob received a letter from the Air Force asking him to return to service. Bob and Audrey discussed this while on their Honeymoon in Minneapolis, from where he sent in his acceptance. Things progressed swiftly from then on. He served in Edmonton, Gimli, San Antonio, Denver, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Germany, France, Comox, Greenwood, Halifax, Alabama, Virginia, Halifax (again) and finally Winnipeg, in 1973, where he retired from the Canadian Forces, and immediately was hired by the St. John Ambulance Council of Manitoba as its Executive Director. Bob spent ten years with St. John, was invested as a Serving Brother in the Order of St. John in 1977, promoted to Officer in the Order in 1979, and to Commander in 1983. He was also very active in the service of St. Mark's and St. Bartholomew Anglican Churches. He is dearly loved by his surviving family and friends, and will be sorely missed by all who had the honour to know him. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Bartholomew's, at 881 Autumnwood Dr., Winnipeg, where a celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
