Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLINDLEY SINCLAIR HODNETT 1910 - 2005 Peacefully, after a brief stay at Grace Hospital, Lin Hodnett passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2005 in his 95th year. He was predeceased by his wife Rita, great-grandson Cale and sister Irene. Cherishing his memory are his two daughters, Joan (Ivor) and Pat (Dale); five grandchildren, Rhea, Sheri (Peter), Brian (Renee), Randy (Colleen) and Janice; and six great-grandchildren, Danielle and Taylor, Willem and Oliver, and Ryan and Adam; and nieces, Gail and Fran and their families. Lin was born September 3, 1910 and raised in Miniota. He finished Grade 11 at 14 years old then went to St. John's College in Winnipeg. At 17 he had won two Manitoba junior tennis championships as well as the Manitoba grass court mixed doubles tennis championship with his mother. His education was interrupted by the depression and he went to Timmins, ON and worked underground in the mines. He resumed playing tennis in 1935 and won the Northern Ontario championship gathering 52 trophies in all. He also worked in Kapuskasing as club manager at the Community Centre Club where he met Rita Desloges and they were married in 1937. He left Kapuskasing in 1940 and came to Winnipeg where he owned and operated a small fast food restaurant for five years. He then went to Miniota where he bought the general store from his Dad which he operated for 20 years. He joined the I.O.O.F. in 1945 and rose to become Grand Master in 1963 and was, until his death, the longest surviving Grand Master. In 1965 he went to live in Victoria and four years later moved to Arlington, TX. After a gap of 43 years he went back to University at the age of 62 and obtained a MBA. He then taught at the University of Texas in Arlington and then at Fort Worth Junior College, returning to Winnipeg in 1993. Throughout the years he had a keen interest in all sports, politics and history. He had a great sense of humour, a wealth of knowledge on many subjects, and would gladly regale us with stories of his past! We will miss him very much. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. Interment will be at Miniota Cemetery, Wednesday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lin's memory to a charity of one's choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
