KATHERINE (CATHARINA) CHMIELOWSKI (nee OKOLITA) Peacefully, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease, Katherine passed away on April 23 at the age of 100 years and three months. Katherine is survived by sisters, Barbara Schrum (Mike) and Jean Laguniak; son Eugene Waskin (Lillian); granddaughter Carole Demianyk (Colin); grandson Craig Waskin (Joanne); and great-grandchildren, Alexandrea, Bryan, Matthew and Tyler. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by husbands, Michael Waskin and Joseph Chmielowski, and six siblings. Katherine was born January 19, 1905 in Brody-Tarnipol, Poland. She came to Canada in 1907 at the age of two and the family settled and farmed near Ladywood, MB. She later moved to Winnipeg to reside in the North End. Her greatest passions were sewing, crocheting and needlepoint. She loved to laugh and listen to music. A warm thank you is extended to staff at Holy Family Nursing Home for their kindness and compassionate care over the last 15 years. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with viewing one-half hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Craig, Matthew, and Tyler Waskin, Colin, Alexandrea and Bryan Demianyk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katherine's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
