JAMES STEWART MCEWAN With deep sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the passing of James Stewart McEwan on April 23, 2005. Jim passed peacefully after a stoic battle with crippling cancer. His loving wife and daughter were at his side. Jim was the second eldest in a large family of ten children, born to Jim and Evelyn McEwan. He grew up in St. Vital, Windsor Park and Elmwood. As an elder child, Jim was given the responsibility of looking after his younger siblings, which he did with great patience and wisdom at this early age. As a young teenager Jim was a sea cadet; here he met his lifelong friend Cliff and developed a passion for all things navy including a love of astronomy. He was an avid stargazer and eventually, along with his brother Ralph, built his own telescope. After university (U of M), where he met his wife Judy, Jim attended R.R.C.C. and then began his career in the world of engineering. First he worked for G. H. Currie and Associates and later became a partner with Smith Carter Architects and Engineers. Jim loved his work. It took him across Canada and the US and later to Europe and Africa. He was a master at his profession. Always calm, responsible, respectful, patient, generous, intelligent and full of integrity - Jim was a renaissance man and loved life. He was a gift to all who knew and loved him. To the very end, he viewed his cup as half full, never empty. He will be deeply missed by his wife Judy; his pride and joy, daughter Eleanor; along with his family: his mother, father, his siblings, Joanne, Ralph, Bruce, Kenny, Murray, Norm, Glen, Diane and Donnie. As well, Jim will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues and his sister and brother-in-law Elaine and John. Don't send for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee. What will I do without you, Jim? We would like to thank Dr. Shadd, Dr. Picard and the nursing staff at Riverview; Janice B. and Manuel for their compassion and good care of Jim during his illness. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Salvation Army would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster United Church, 745 Westminster Ave. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
