Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGOLDIE ZAITLEN (nee BOOKHALTER) Born January 15, 1922 in Winnipeg. As a young woman there she had a top record of achievement, completing varied academic studies at the University of Manitoba, to which she had been admitted at the youngest age to that time. She was then employed in Ottawa including in the Department of Defence during the Second World War. She married in 1947 moving to Saskatoon where she resided many years raising her family and worked in professional offices with her husband. In 1984 she relocated to the Toronto area. She always maintained the highest morals and ethics, and also dedication to traditional Judaism. She was a very devoted wife and mother, and also to family, friends and her community. She was well known to be always thoughtful and understanding, recognized for extraordinary warmth and kindness and helping others, and for her exceptional ability quickly to bring ease and joy even to strangers. She also had wide and varied interests ranging from very intellectual through adventurous, from literary reading to worldwide travel. She is survived by her son, Marshall; predeceased by her husband of 50 years Abe, parents, Sonia and Manuel Bookhalter; and brother Abe Bookhalter. Died April 24, 2005 in Toronto. Funeral services and burial will be in Winnipeg (Hebrew Sick Benefit Cemetery; contact HSB for day and time).
