Date of Passing: Apr 25, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE NAWOLSKI April 6, 1911 - April 25, 2005 Early Monday morning, after a short illness, a beautiful caring lady was taken peacefully by the angels while surrounded by family members. Grandma fought hard to stay but her body grew tired. A gentle tear left behind told us she was saddened to leave. We miss you dearly. Sophie was predeceased by her husband of 71 years Joseph; her infant daughter Helen and her son Wesley (William); sister Mary Kostuk; brothers, Dan, Walter, Nick and Joe Harrison. Left to celebrate her life is her son Walter (Delene); daughter-in-law Bettyann; grandchildren, Bev Ganchar (Gerald), Richard (Terry), Audrey (Scottie), Frances Kullman (Gary) and Tony; great-grandchildren, Lisa, Kori, Krista, Jenna, Barry, Dana, Crystal Stevens (Vernon), Shannon, Doug, Steven and Holly and her great-great grandchildren, Amber and Nathan. She also leaves to mourn her passing her sisters-in-law, Mary and Dorothy Harrison and numerous nieces and nephews. Sophie was born in Poland and came to Canada in 1929. She worked in Winnipeg until she met her soulmate Joseph and got married on September 18, 1932 in Lac du Bonnet, MB. Together they farmed and lived a simple life spending their time enjoying the company of family and friends. Every weekend was spent entertaining friends during a good game of cards. Grandma was a social butterfly touching the lives of everyone she met. She became a popular seamstress and spent numerous hours behind the sewing machine. They finally moved into town and she then spent her days at the Senior Citizens Recreational Centre enjoying music and dancing. She loved singing and joined the choir at the Ukrainian Catholic Church she belonged to. Finally for health reasons she moved into Winnipeg. She always put her husband, children and grandchildren first and greeted everyone with a warm smile - she had a positive energy that she passed on to all she met. Her kindness, generosity and smiles will be remembered forever and will be missed dearly. We were blessed to have known her, loved her and been loved by her. Grandma you are now in God's care and we are sure that Grandpa, Helen and Wesley will guide you in your Journey home. Until we all meet again, take care, we love you. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, MB. The family wishes to express their thanks to the exceptional angelic caregivers at Holy Family Nursing Home. You are special people and we appreciate all the love and gentle care you have shown both our Grandparents. We cannot thank you enough for the support you have given us these past few days - you have been a source of energy and strength for us during this difficult time. We also wish to thank those who have visited with our grandparents and filled in their hours with stories and laughter. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. From St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Beausejour with Fr. Owen Steeves presiding. Interment will be in the Lac Du Bonnet Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Richard Nawolski, Gerald Ganchar, Tony Nawolski, Barry Nawolski, Steven Lloyd and Ronnie Nawolski.
