ROY SELLORS 1913 - 2005 On April 24, 2005, with his family at his bedside, Roy passed away, peacefully, at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. He was 91. A father, grandfather, great-grandfather, architect, professor and dean he was loved, admired and respected by his family, friends, students and colleagues. He was predeceased in 2000 by Theresa (nee Gervais), his wife of 58 years; also by his brothers, Harry, Ed and Dick. He is lovingly remembered by his five children, Paul (Libbie), John (Liz), Michael (Tess), Ed (Cheryl) and Liz (Richard Hutchings); his grandchildren, Mark (Jackie) Sellors, Leanne (John) Fanner, Heather Sellors, Mary Kate (Shuji) Saito, Curt, Scott and Adrienne Sellors, Roy, Sam and Jack Hutchings; his great-grandchildren, Edmund and Meghan Sellors, Alexander and Adelaide Fanner, Max Saito; and his sisters-in-law, Fran and Lillian Sellors. Roy was born in Winnipeg on June 8, 1913. He attended school in Winnipeg and graduated with the R.A.I.C. Gold Medal in Architecture at the University of Manitoba in 1936. A scholarship took him to Boston where he obtained his Masters Degree in Architecture at M.I.T. In 1941, Roy married Theresa (also from Winnipeg) in Fort Worth, Texas. He practiced Architecture in Chicago, Fort Worth, and Minneapolis before returning to Winnipeg, in 1948, to become a professor in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba. He was Dean of Architecture from 1967 to 1974 and retired as Professor Emeritus in 1978. In addition to his academic career, Roy maintained a private architectural practice for over 30 years. He designed many buildings in Manitoba, specializing in churches, schools and private residences - including the family home on South Drive and a cottage at Lake of the Woods. He was a Registered Architect in the United States and Canada and a Fellow of both the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Royal Society of Art in London, England, a Member of the Manitoba Association of Architects, the Royal Institute of British Architects and the American Institute of Architects. He contributed to many local and international architectural projects including those of the Commonwealth Association of Architects. He was Vice Chair of the Canadian Housing Design Council and a member of the U. of M. Architectural Advisory Committee. His extensive work on the R.A.I.C. education committee included the development of the current minimum Syllabus Program. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of the U. of M. Faculty of Architecture, the R.W.B., M.T.C. and the W.S.O. We thank all who assisted with the care of our father in his later years especially his caregiver Tess Dominguez. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the Manitoba Home Care Program, International Nannies Homecare, Dr. Goodhand, Victoria Hospital's Lifeline, Riverview Health Centre and, with particular gratitude, to the Convalescent Home for their exceptional care. In accordance with Dad's wishes, there will be a private family service. We ask that you remember Roy in your own way. Donations may be made in Roy's name to the John A. Russell Alumni Bursary Fund or the Faculty of Architecture Endowment Fund. Contact Susan Shanley (204) 474-6801.
