Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE CRAWFORD 1906 - 2005 Myrtle Crawford died peacefully Tuesday, March 1, with her daughters at her side. She was born Myrtle Bowman in 1906 and spent a happy childhood in Winnipeg and rural Saskatchewan. As a young woman she taught in a one-room school in Rosser, MB. In 1931 she graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing. Myrtle took pleasure and pride in being a registered nurse. Throughout her nursing career she worked in hospitals in Winnipeg and Yorkton. In 1932 she married Hugh Crawford. They eventually settled in Fort Garry. After Hugh's death in 1956, Myrtle returned to teaching to support her family and taught grade three at St. Avila School in Fort Garry until her retirement in 1972. Nursing was her first love, teaching her second and she dedicated herself to her students. In retirement she enjoyed family, friends, books, gardening, Scrabble and her study of the Bible. In 1997 she moved to the Eastern Star Chalet, and, more recently to the Charleswood Care Centre. In addition to her husband, her brothers, Ephriam Bowman and Herbert Bowman and sisters, Bertha Peterson, Ruby Bowman and Grace Anderson predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Frost and Christine Eldridge; sons-in-law, Richard Frost and Fred Eldridge; granddaughters, Caitlyn Frost, Heather Frost (Jeff Mason), Meghan Eldridge (Kori Miyanishi), Melanie Eldridge (Peter Robbie); great-granddaughter Imogen Eldridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. Throughout her long life Myrtle brought joy and laughter to the lives of many. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 3, at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., followed by a service of interment in the Garden of the Old Rugged Cross (within walking distance of the chapel). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Myrtle's behalf to the Grace General Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., R3J 3M7.
